Position: Automation Engineer
Location: Van Buren Township, MI 48111
Duration: 7-12 months Contract                       

"Ideally, this person should have 1+ years of experience working with chef or puppet in an enterprise environment.
In absence of solid experience (I.e. They are actually writing scripts to do real work vs some playing around with it in their home lab),
the person should have 3+ years solid experience in an enterprise or mid-size business with the bash/shell scripting plus Ruby, perl, python.
The person should also have some exposure working with platforms, operating systems versus being a straight application developer."

Responsibilities:
•Work closely with application owners to understand the purpose and functionality of the applications to improve the success of migrations
•Provide architectural consultation to application teams utilizing best practices, design patterns and standards in modifying and migrating applications to public and hybrid cloud environments
•Educate and mentor peers and application teams on best practices for deploying, modifying and migrating existing applications into cloud-aware applications
•Develop scripts to automate deployment and configuration changes using tools such as Chef
•Setup up and maintain am automated environment using Chef recipes & cookbooks
•Document best practices, design patterns and standards that will be common to multiple applications.
•Participate in architecture and code reviews
•Assist application teams with integrating applications into operational services and processes
•Participate on multiple agile scrum teams, interacting with other team members including business application teams, quality assurance, and project management

Qualifications/ requirements
•Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, analytics or a related field, or equivalent years of work experience
•Minimum of 1 years of experience with automation & orchestration tools such as Chef or Puppet
•Minimum of 2 years of experience with one or more scripting languages such as Perl, Ruby, Python or Powershell

Desired Characteristics
•Experience with seamless/automated build scripts used for release management across multiple environments
•Experience with continuous integration software (e.g. Bamboo, Jenkins, etc) and repositories (e.g. Github)
•Experience with Linux and Windows systems administration
•Experience with designing, deploying and migrating highly available multi-tiered applications to public cloud providers (AWS and/or Azure preferred)
•Proven track record of delivering excellent results in a fast paced environment
•Demonstrated ability to work independently
•Change oriented – actively generates process improvements; champions and drives change initiatives
•Strong team player – collaborates well with others to solve problems and actively incorporates input from various sources
•Highly organized and efficient; able to balance competing priorities and execute accordingly
•Strong interpersonal skills including written (e.g. documents, Powerpoint), verbal and listening
•Strong facilitation and influencing skills
•Strong analytical and strong problem solving skills - effectively evaluates information/data to make decisions; anticipates obstacles and develops plans to resolve
•Customer focus – builds solutions and evaluates decisions through a customer lens
