{PBJFlorida} Host a High-School age Dept of State merit scholar.

Dear Friends,

Be an Ambassador by hosting an ambassador from another country.  American Councils is looking for families and/or individuals who would like to host a high-school age exchange student for the coming year, 2015-16.  Andy from Ghana would come on YES (Youth Exchange Study) and program established after 9/11 to develop positive relationships with students and their families in about 40 countries with a significant Muslim population.  Anhelina from Ukraine would come on FLEX (Future Leaders Exchange) established in 1992 to bring students to the U.S. for one year of high school from countries of the former Soviet Union. (Profiles are attached to this e-mail)

Host families provide a supportive, English-speaking environment; three meals/day plus snacks; a bed and a place to study; and transportation to school and/or volunteer activities as needed.  They are allowed a $50/month deduction on income tax for each month (at least 15 days) that they host a student.

U.S. State Dept. scholarship students receive a monthly stipend, health insurance, and a small incidental allowance for necessary school supplies.  They are required to maintain a B average, participate in a leadership club, make at least 3 cultural presentations at school and/or in the community, and perform at least 30 hours of volunteer service to the community.
