DATA ANALYST IN LOS ANGELES - PHONE AND IN PERSON INTERVIEW

 

Duration: 1 year plus

Location: Los Angeles

 

The data quality analyst is responsible for ensuring that a high level of accuracy and completeness of title and other Publishing business information is maintained in all relevant applications. Critical to the role is knowledge of the integration points across systems and a focus on data integrity.

Hands-on experience with database query tools (MS SQL Server, Oracle, MS Access); capable of writing complex SQL queries and query scripting

Role Definition

• Comprehend the methodologies and technologies that enable the flow of data within and between systems

• Understand and document the business processes and functions that drive information requirements, especially title management

• Work with IT application teams to understand and document data base designs and data flows across the applications

• Work with finance, accounting, contract management, operations, sales , brand and product management and publishing category teams to analyze business issues and data challenges and recommend information solutions to streamline work flows

• Define and track quality assurance metrics including data completeness and data accuracy

• Ensure data quality standards, procedures and methodologies are being followed

• Identify opportunities to reduce data redundancy, discover trends in data use and optimize single sources of data

• Develop recommendations for new applications and processes or enhancements to current applications as needed to ensure data integrity

Day to Day:

§ Develop operational knowledge of all related applications and their database structures, including PUBS, Pubworld / Global Titles Library (GTL), Publishing Digital Library (PDL) and Insight.

§ Areas of focus for data integrity are:

• PUBS export to GTL / series mapping

• Vertical master data (MPM) setup for Cognos (TM1), monthly load

• Middleware mapping for TM1 sales

• GTL to Foundation / Online Product Approval (OPA) mapping

• GTL title setup (ISBN accuracy and completeness)

• OPA to GTL status

• GTL to PDL title mapping

• PDL to OPA error checking

§ Ensuring data integrity will consist of working with data owners to make corrections and/or performing data updates directly

§ Expected to be facile using company BI reporting tools, Microstrategy and Cognos

§ Understand organization, processes and objectives of Clients Publishing business

§ Thorough knowledge/understanding of the Company and its policies procedures, contract requirements, and work practices

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

§ Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field, or equivalent work experience

§ At least four (4) years of business or technical experience performing relevant duties at a responsible level

REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS

§ Understanding of the concepts, capabilities, and integration of relational databases, application development languages or packages, operating systems and IT infrastructure

§ Demonstrated proficiency of database management or programming techniques, including data modeling, data analysis, relational DBMS design and support

§ Hands-on experience with database query tools (MS SQL Server, Oracle, MS Access); capable of writing complex SQL queries and query scripting

§ "Second-nature" accuracy and attention to detail

§ Familiarity with OLAP data warehousing and/or Business Intelligence reporting

ADDITIONAL SKILLS

§ Excellent analytical skills with ability to write clear business requirements

§ Solid organizational skills/capable of prioritizing tasks

§ Strong time management skills/proven ability to meet deadlines

§ Self-starter/ability to work independently

§ Strong written and oral communication skills

§ Sound business ethics/excellent judgment

§ Basic comprehension of financial reporting practices

§ Fully proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Visio software

§ Willingness to travel if necessary
