How many years of experience are you looking for? As you start to go through resumes, what would stand out to you as the BEST candidate versus an AVERAGE candidate?
-- 3-4 years of PM experience. Required. More experience is ideal – will weight experience within Microsoft more.

-- Somebody who has been a PM in support and has experience with our tools. We currently work across all of the incident management tools MS Solve and Cap, Product Studio and TFS, SharePoint

--Need to have the ability to source answers from a wide variety of sources – if they can show that they have worked in cross functional teams. Previous experience with global programs would also be very helpful.

--Resumes need to show that they are able to work independently. They will be part of a team, but it is a small, fairly unstructured team – they need to be comfortable with a lot of ambiguity.

Do you need someone who's worked at Microsoft before? If yes, any internal tools they should know about?
-- Yes – ideally within support. They would have an understanding what we do and how we do it today and help them to ramp up quickly. Incident management tools.

What would you say are the TOP 3 must-have skills you're looking for? (Measurable skills, technologies, etc.)
a.) SQL skills – intermediate for reporting purposes. They will primarily be a consumer of data. They need to be able to look at the various cubes and warehouses that we have and extract the right fields to build the right kind of reporting. Need somebody who is comfortable with Excel, pivots, power BI. Previous data analyst experience would be a plus. 2-3 years of experience with SQL.
b.) Need to understand Microsoft technologies for example cloud services – what they are, what they offer, how they are used. They don't need to be deeply technical.
c.) Communication skills – particularly writing. If they have experience in creating readiness or training content. Need to have an ability to relate the critical points in a concise way – not necessarily in a flashy, sales-y manner. Also experience with PowerPoint. Candidates who include writing samples are preferred.

Do you need someone with a particular degree or certification?
--Experience over degrees.

In terms of presentation skills, will this person be leading any meetings or Skype conferences?
--They will be running and leading meetings – need to take notes and send follow-up notes. They don't need to be a master orator, but must be comfortable speaking in front of people.
