Re: {PBJFlorida} Digest for pbjflorida@googlegroups.com - 6 Messages in 5 Topics

AA pbj - I may be behind the times but if you have not run into the Brave Nation movement that Office Depot is working with, check out

http://bornthiswayfoundation.org/be-a-founding-member

Born This Way Foundation was originally organized by Lady Gaga and her mother, to support gay and lesbian youth. It has taken on a life of its own way beyond as a movement to create a youth/young adult movement dedicated to a braver world dedicated to compassion, peace, and awareness of social interaction.  I have signed up as a founding member for Brave Nation movement, which is the training that will be offered.

I am not normally a full Lady Gaga fan, but I do think she has a message for today's youth that we perhaps can not well "walk the talk". When I started seeing "Be Brave" "Be Amazing" "Be Yourself" "Be Kind" "Be Accepting" "Be Involved" - well, my attention got snapped around, to say the least.

Have a super week.

Police: 7 dead in Wisconsin Sikh temple
    shooting 05 Aug 2012 A gunman opened
fire Sunday and killed six people at a Sikh temple near Milwaukee before he was
killed in an exchange of gunfire with one of the first officers to respond to
the chaotic scene, authorities said. The shootings happened before 10:30 a.m.,
when witnesses said several dozen people were gathering at the Sikh Temple of
Wisconsin for a service. Hours of uncertainty followed as police in tactical
gear and carrying assault rifles surrounded the temple with armored vehicles and
ambulances. A crowd gathered outside as officers descended on the temple and
some spoke of talking or exchanging text messages with people inside. Some said
they had heard there were multiple shooters, others spoke of women and children
    held hostage.
    Gunman, six others dead at
Wisconsin Sikh temple 05 Aug 2012 At
least seven people, including a gunman shot by a police officer, have been
killed in an attack on worshippers at a Sikh temple in the Milwaukee suburb of
Oak Creek, Wisconsin, on Sunday, police said. The officer was wounded but
"returned fire, and that shooter was put down," said Bradley Wentlandt, the
police chief in nearby Greenfield, who briefed reporters. Investigators who
picked through the building afterward found four bodies inside the temple and
two other victims outside, plus the gunman, Wentlandt said. Though early reports had suggested there may have been
more than one attacker, he said officers had not identified any
    other gunmen.CLG needs your support.

    Hi Miguel
Just moments ago Marco Saavedra, Viridiana Martinez, Ally Ruiz and Daniel Alvarado were arrested in front of the Broward Detention Center. They were joined by over 25 families of detainees and we were all demanding an end to low-priority detentions and the release of people like Claudio Rojas. ICE wasn't taking us serious so we needed to show them that this community is no longer going to live in fear.
DONATE $25 TO THE UNDOCUMENTED BAIL FUND AND HELP US GET THEM OUT!
Marco and Viridiana were just released on Friday from the Broward Detention Center after they went undercover in an effort to infiltrate the detention center. Marco was detained inside of the Broward Detention Center for over 3-weeks and Viridiana just over 2-weeks. Both Marco and Viridiana participated in this action because they believe their friends from the detention center should also be released.
Stand up with Marco, Viridiana, Ally and Daniel and donate $25 to the Undocumented Bail Fund so we can get them released!
All four are now on their way to the Broward County Jail, from there ICE will have the choice whether to detain them or not. Regardless of what happens all four are ready to deal with it because they know they have you supporting them. Our goal is to raise at least $2,000 today, will you help us with the first $25, $75, or $250 donation so we can secure the release of our friends?
The detention center is now on lock-down, however we've made a pledge not to stop fighting and hope you'll join us. Stay tune for updates.
    Much love,
    Mohammad

P.S. Don't forget to sign the petition asking for ICE to review all of the cases out of the Broward detention center and to release all low-priority detainees!

Thank you so much for the gracious invitation Maisoon! I plan to be there, at the very least at the Iftar. Susan Peterson on PBJF was just stating how we should learn about our beloved Muslim brothers and sisters to break the misconceptions.

    Salaam!
    Miguel
