Job Description

The SR. VMWARE engineer is responsible for the overall design, implementation, and escalation support of an ESX based virtual infrastructure consisting of Cisco UCS and Fiber attached storage.

 

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for defining current and future VMware vSphere technical architecture from VM layout through ESX cluster configuration and connection to underlying SAN and IP network.
• Monitor utilization, capacity growth and performance of VMs and physical servers across primary and secondary datacenters.
• Properly develops and maintains standards and operating procedures for ESX, VM, servers, UCS management.
• Create infrastructure and systems architecture documentation.
• Responsible for disaster recovery procedures of virtual environment
• Interface with Network, SAN and backup teams effectively in building and maintaining VMware and physical environments.
• Ensures the integrity and security of the VMs, physical servers, and ESX hosts.
• Conducts system troubleshooting analysis and development to keep systems current with changing technologies.
• Responsible for emergency response as needed to correct system failures by participating in an on-call rotation if necessary.
• Serves as key technical resource for team, providing advice, training and technical support for various projects and day to day operations.

Related Experience:

• Minimum 5 years experience LEADING the design and implementation of VMWare vSphere and related management (provisioning, backups) and monitoring/alerting systems.
• Must have demonstrable, expert knowledge in implementing Disaster Recovery of virtual systems (preferably using SRM).
• Minimum 10 years experience in senior systems engineering role supporting enterprise class infrastructure/applications consisting of 200+ servers, 50TB+ storage, and mission critical applications

·         Familiarity with ITIL (or other) Service Management framework principles.

• Scripting experience in VMware and Windows is required.
• VMWare certifications preferred.

Knowledge / Skill / Ability:

• Expert in configuring VMware vSphere clusters and related VMware technologies vCenter, vCenter Operations, vShield, SRM, and powerCLI,
• Expert with building and maintaining high-availability (>99%) enterprise class environments.
• Experienced with SAN, NAS, and Networking technologies, preferably EMC VMAX, and Cisco UCS.
• Experienced in Datacenter operations.
• Experienced with enterprise class monitoring and management tools of virtualized and physical environment.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to interact professionally.
• Demonstrated success with administrative and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage time with regards to completing projects and other deliverables.
• Ability to work productively in teams; experience prioritizing tasks.
• Ability and motivation to learn new technologies quickly and with minimal support and guidance.
• Excellent problem solving skills.
• Experienced in system-level security procedures and industry standards.

Experienced at diagnosing and remedying serious server related problems and failures promptly and effectively.
