POSITION: Senior SQL Database Developer/DBA( With MongoDB)
LOCATION: Raleigh, NC or Austin, TX
DURATION: Long Term
The Senior Database Developer/DBA will work closely with the development team to implement new features and enhancements on a new application as well as maintenance and support of existing applications in production. The person hired for this role should have extremely strong MS SQL experience and have practical experience with NoSQL databases. This candidate will initially be responsible for learning about and taking ownership of existing desktop and web applications using MS SQL as the database. Ownership activities will include tuning SQL queries and increasing database performance by improving overall table design, indexing, query plan analysis, and refactoring. The right candidate will not only have strong data modeling and database tuning skills, but will also have a strong track record of working collaboratively with developers to come up with creative solutions. This person will also assist in resolving database issues reported from external customers, escalated from our tech support team. This role will require strong debugging and troubleshooting skills to provide detailed root cause analysis. As the candidate establishes mastery of the existing applications using MS SQL, the job will evolve to include participation on teams developing applications based on a MongoDB database. The expectation is the candidate will start involvement on the MongoDB teams after 6 months on the job and will split responsibilities between the MS SQL and MongoDB teams going forward. While this is not a DBA position, responsibilities will include tuning databases and working with the DBA team to maintain consistent database performance and stability.
What You Have Required • 10+ years experience as an MS SQL database developer. This should include extensive work experience with table design, index utilization, query plan analysis, and a deep understanding of how MS SQL works in order to provide top notch performance from complex queries. • Practical work experience with NoSQL database development (MongoDB preferred). An ability to demonstrate an understanding of the differences between typical relational and NoSQL database development and access methodologies. • 3+ years of hands on experience developing .NET C# applications. This position is not a C# programming position but the right candidate will have some hands on C# development experience in order to understand how developers use C# to access both MS SQL and NoSQL databases. • Strong written and verbal communications, teamwork, and problem-solving skills are necessary. • Ability to interact and communicate successfully with business partners and technology teams • Very strong object oriented design skills with proven track record of well-engineered design. • Self-starter who can grasp difficult concepts and large architectures quickly • Strong estimation skills with ability to provide reasonable estimates • Experience with unit testing and history of successful interaction with a QA group • Experience developing hosted client server applications • Desire to mentor peers and junior staff • Desire to be a technical leader within a scrum environment • BS or MS in computer science or related technical field Desired • Familiarity with Agile methodologies is a plus.
