The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for working with the team leads for the successful deployment  and implementation of the changes to the existing payroll system ,the new payroll system (PeopleSoft) under development,  the retirement program (University of California Retirement Program) and Human Resource processes for the delivery and support of the new tier of retirement benefits.
The candidate will have a dotted line reporting to the IT PMO and direct reporting to the Retirement Options Implementation Project sponsor.
The IT Project Manager will work under the supervision of the IT PMO applying advanced project management concepts to manage efforts, and execute multiple deliverables of varying size and scope and with specific outcomes and quality levels.  This role will coordinate and manage the efforts of project team members that include UCOP employees, contractors and consultants. The Sr. Project Manager will also define each subproject's objectives and oversee quality control through its lifecycle. They will exercise judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results, and follow standard project management techniques to ensure project is delivered on time and within budget.

Other Responsibilities:
•Coordinate decision making process with team.   Serve as a liaison to build relationships and understanding. 
•Conduct overall project monitoring and performance management against the project scope, schedule and budget; escalating potential risks to project leadership in a timely manner.
•Manages the project using MS Project Server and prepares regular updates to the various stakeholders
•As appropriate, identifies and escalates project risks or outstanding issues to project sponsors with recommended mitigations or resolutions.
 

Experience:
•Knowledge of or experience with large scale business administrative systems handling HR, payroll, and/or financial functions.
•Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
•Bachelor's degree in business or information technology; a minimum of eight years' experience in project management including experience in project initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, controlling and closing for a large, complex project; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
•Advanced knowledge and understanding of project management concepts, practices, standards, and processes.
•Demonstrated sensitivity and ability to proactively identify key issues critical to the success of a desired product/outcome; the ability to quickly research and collect pertinent information from related reports and knowledgeable persons, to integrate essential information, and use that information to define and test.
