Thank you Penny. I like the word "service" too! I am also inspired by your work (service) at IDignity and FOCUS, and dedication to family as well.

Thank you Miguel. I call it service and yes it springs from abundance and the many blessings of my life. Service is in fact a blessing in my life. I am pleased to be working more with IDignity.I also get inspired by my many friends, you two among them, who do good in the world.I have not forgotten the reading circle but FOCUS (voter registration with Dave) and family have me busy for the next couple weeks.

Jim,Thanks always for the kind words! When I say "sacrifice" I don't mean it from the vantage point of scarcity but from abundance. We who have optimism, comfort, education, food, jobs, etc. should "sacrifice" (or "share" if you prefer) our time, energy, and talents with the less fortunate. It is putting that "vision" you often mention, into "practice." That vision is what I call faith. And practice in the Christian tradition is called works or praxis. As the scriptures state, "faith without works is dead."
It may be an "old" paradigm, but in my studies and meditations, nothing, neither peace nor justice, neither cures nor discoveries, neither abundance nor safety, have come without true sacrifice. And that simply means to be "present," not where we want to be, but where we are needed.Miguel
Sent from my iPhoneMiguel, i applaud your willingness to sacrifice. You are doing awesome work. You are the glue holding lots of initiatives together in this region. You are a blessing to us all. I am very grateful.I also think there is much to learn from you statement here. From the work I have been doing and the experiences I've had, we tend to get stuck in an old illusion of not enough, of sacrifice, of too few rather than embrace to reality of enough, of abundance, connection and possibilities. We all fall for the scarcity illusion. It is part of our cultural conditioning.Imagining is different kind of world, a different way of life is something we all have done at one time or another. especially when we were very young. Can we shift our attention to creating (imagining, innovation) the world our hearts know is possible? When we own the vision, there is no sacrifice --it is our passionate work; it is what gets us up in the morning.jim
--It takes sacrifice Aileen. And sadly very few people are willing to sacrifice.--

Miguel

I'm sorry to hear that Jim. It was said many times in our meetings, it is the necessary work, but the most difficult to achieve - I guess we still haven't figured out how.

Aileen,I wish that were true that something else has taken its place. There are bubblings and breezes at dawn and whispers in the night. Some get the importance of creativity and collaboration and speak about it, but few are willing to commit the time it takes to build the kinds of relationships needed to create a radically new narrative of abundance and possibility (to alter the culture). We seem too wrapped up in our own illusions of certainty and security to venture forth. I keep hoping... As Ginny said (and I have heard the same phrase recently from others too), "community building is the epicenter of this work." there are growing numbers that see this.
Yeah Jim, the feeling is mutual. So I take it the meetings have ceased? I know that just means something else has taken its place :o)
