This is not from simply "throwing things into the sea". The Pacific trash vortex (or vortices, I've seen it both ways) is/are the result not merely of ocean dumping (maybe mostly by ships?) but also perhaps primarily land run-off, probably some even from "regulated" landfills.... Yes, I'll use this in class too. - Eric
