3-5 years of experience - willing to do support work.  If 15+ years' experience, understand the complexity, triage, hands on experience on a support role.

C++ runs on Linux operating system. 
Movement planner has java components - we don't see that many issues so it's desirable.  Focus is on C++ side.

The Transportation Movement Planner product team is seeking experienced software support professionals. In this role, you will be providing technical support of the Movement Planner (MP) system used by Norfolk Southern (NS) railroad customer. You will be accountable for taking direct support cases & operational defects from NS customer support centers as well as from solution developers. You will be responsible for managing support cases on a daily basis including initial triage, isolating and diagnosing the problem, ensuring issues are reproducible and subsequent resolution of the issue. You will also be responsible for building the knowledge base to prevent recurrence of escalation for previously resolved cases.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
  • Provide Movement Planner application support working closely with the customer support team, to diagnose and resolve customer reported software/ configuration issues and anomalies,
  • Partnership with product development, and test teams for Hotfix, Maintenance  Releases and bugs/feature requests
  • Install and configure the product suite and create test cases to isolate configuration issues and product defects
  • Improve our product knowledge base, build knowledge centric support
  • Work as Tier-3 software support engineer and work closely with customer support team (Tier-1 and Tier-2)
  • Work as an individual contributor and take guidance from software technical leader,
  • Work in an environment of developers using open source development tools.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or in "STEM" Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) from an accredited college or university.
  • 5+ years of experience in software industry with at least 3 years in software technical support experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of C++ programming language and of databases/ SQL.

Expected Skillset:
  • Hands on programming experience and knowledge of C++, Java, and Oracle Ability to work on multiple problems simultaneously 
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills demonstrated by the ability to assimilate new information, understand complex topics 
  • Strong familiarity with Linux OS and performance optimizations. 
  • Knowledge of Linux internals and administration is highly desired
  • Robust understanding of database technologies and performance optimization
  • Excellent written and verbal communicationExperience with Scrum/ Agile development,
  • Self-starter who is motivated to learn and is at ease working as part of a team of highly talented professionals
  • Must be able to work closely with cross functional teams (Development, Product Management, QA and other key stakeholders)
  • Experience with software version management (ClearCase, SVN, or Git),
  • Domain knowledge in Railroad Operating Practices.
