Backup Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY:
Enterprise Backup Engineer will be responsible for hands-on Engineering role in a Fortune 12 company.
Responsibilities will include developing implementation solutions based on established Enterprise Technical Architecture standards and service catalogs, evaluating new technologies and creating supporting documentation to be used by other parts of IT organization. The individual will work with domain architects, other engineering and operations team members to fulfill business IT requirements by delivering effective solutions that are supportable, maintainable and cost effective. Selected individual will focus on primarily CommVault, Tivoli Storage Manager and EMC technologies supporting the Backup & Recovery Environment.
Target Technologies:
The skill set needs to include:
• CommVault
• Tivoli Storage Manager
• Data Domain
• IBM & Quantum Tape Library Management
• Isilon
• VNX
PRIOR WORK EXPERIENCE:
• 5+ years of experience with Enterprise Backup Engineering technologies
Required Skills:
• Strong knowledge of backup based storage technologies (Data Domain, IBM & Quantum tape libraries)
• Strong knowledge of backup storage replication, de-duplication, encryption technologies and data migration techniques.
• Understanding of connectivity requirements for open systems hosts (Windows, Linux, Unix) and backup storage subsystems (Tape and NAS).
• Understanding of how to interact with external vendors in the form of troubleshooting and escalation
• Ability to do both capacity planning and performance analysis
Desired Abilities:
• Strong problem solving, time management and organizational skills
• Excellent interpersonal and communication (oral, listening and writing) skills are required
• Excel at efficient multi-tasking
• Demonstrate a sense of urgency in completing tasks and resolving issues in order to deliver quality projects on time and within budget
• Strong collaboration skills and ability to communicate all aspects of the job requirements, including the creation of formal documentation
Time allocation:
• Engineering services - deliver Engineering Backup/Recovery build solutions and documentation in accordance with established Architecture guidelines - 90%
• Assist with escalated backup/recovery issue resolution - 5%
• Lead POC activities for new to Customer' backup storage devices, create operational documentation - 5%
