Description :

Senior Systems Engineer (VMware/Azure)

 

Summary:

This position is 12+ months in delivering technical solutions for on premise technology and requires a person who has senior level consultation expertise in a specific and defined area of systems.  This position will have current subject matter experience not only in on premise cloud service (VMware VRA and Azure Pack), design and development but also in current deployment practices. This engineer will have contacts within the industry that will allow for continuous updating of industry practice information. The key competencies will also include solid knowledge and skills with various platforms (VMware, Azure and Solaris) and server operating systems (Windows, Linux and Solaris). This position requires 10+ years of relevant experience

 

The successful candidate will be able to quickly understand and resolve issues, mitigate risks and dependencies and the ability to drive projects and resources to completion.

Details:    

                                                                           

·         Supporting the technical design of new projects or infrastructure upgrades using company and industry best practices

·         Overseeing Infrastructure deployments for new projects

·         Owning and completing complex technical tasks within the Infrastructure

·         Performing reviews of the on premise Cloud Services performance and pro-actively making recommendations on how to improve efficiency or lower financial expenditure

·         Attending and contributing to regular Service Review Meetings

·         Provide training and support to technical team

·         Provide leadership and coaching to team members

·         Provide consulting engineering services for the planning, coordination, and implementation of releases, upgrades.

·         Support Wintel and Unix (Linux and Solaris) Server and Application environments.

·         Understanding of load balancing, geo-redundancy, CDN and VPN technologies preferred

·         Ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience navigating large enterprise environments, marrying complex business requirements to progressive design solutions.

·         Responsibilities will include installation, configuration, maintenance, and upgrade activities. Senior Engineers must be capable of presenting solutions to audience.

·         Must have deep expertise and a career focus in the use of prevailing virtualization technologies.

·         The candidate must be able to contribute to assigned projects from inception to delivery. The projects this person will work on will vary, but will often be centered on Virtualization.

·         Install and configure VMware vSphere including networking and storage configurations.

·         Install and configure VMware Site Recovery Manager and work with the storage team to implement and test SRM.

Essential Skills and Competencies:

·         Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communications, analytical and presentation skills.

·         Solid Understanding of Storage & Blade Technologies that integrate with Virtualization

·         Solid understanding of on premise Cloud platforms such as VMware and Azure

·         Solid understanding of Linux and Wintel Server platforms

·         Solid understanding of routing and switching technologies

·         Solid understanding of Backup technologies that leverage visualization

·         Advanced knowledge of server and blade (HP) architecture

 

Preferred Skills:

 

·         Experience in multiple Geo Redundant sites

·         Experience with technologies for continuous multi-site replication

·         Familiar with the following technologies:  Hardware OS – OEL (Oracle Enterprise Linux, IBM AIX, Sun Solaris, Windows; VM Ware; Storage SANs; Oracle Databases; Network Switches, Veritas HA.

·         The skills to assist in scoping, designing and implementing various types of SOW and T&M based projects

·         Certifications in VMware or other relevant technologies would be a plus
