hands-on' Technical Team Leads to lead and run a mixed( technical, design, testing, business etc.) development team working on this innovative teaching and learning environment.
As Technical Lead the successful candidate will work closely with the Project Manager and Project Architect and will be accountable for meeting deliverables, developing world class software and for guiding, executing with and developing the team. In addition, we will look to the Team Lead to work with the business to suggest simple, maintainable product and project features which meet/anticipate customer needs.
This is a high profile project which will give the successful applicant visibility across all aspects of the project and will ultimately be transformative to the business.
Primary Accountabilities:
• Determines specifications, then plans, designs, and develops the most complex and business critical software solutions, utilizing appropriate software engineering processes-either individually or in concert with project team
• Designs and produces detailed technical architecture guidelines and standards for the use of relevant core technologies and protocols
• Researches and maintains knowledge in emerging technologies and possible application to the business
• Assists in troubleshooting the most difficult and mission-critical technical problems
• Acts as an internal consultant, advocate, mentor and change agent

• Provide technical solution recommendations. Governs the definition of system & integration-software technology and design standards. Act as highest level technical expert: partners with software and infrastructure providers to realize strategic goals; addresses aspects of architectural complexity, compatibility and platform diversity.
• Acknowledged as the highest level technical expert within their field; appraises IT and business partners of technologies and trends; proactively identifies opportunities for using technology for realizing business and IT strategy;
• Identifies, compares and recommends technical options, performing options analyses and developing conceptual architectures;
• Specifies application software and middleware components; technology and infrastructure capabilities; sets direction for subsequent design and development activities;
• Works with solution architects and Enterprise Architects to define strategies for reducing cost, risk and complexity across a range of systems and technologies;
• Engages in architectural governance processes; upholds and applies strategic Enterprise Architecture direction; conducts peer review of artefacts developed by other architects, designers and technology partners;
• Works with Solution Designers to ensure systems meet critical non-functional needs;
• Liaises with third party-partners and vendors across and between projects where applicable to ensure systems and integrations remain cohesive and adequately support enterprise wide purpose, reuse and scalability;
• Assists in troubleshooting the most difficult and mission-critical technical problems;
• Coordinates with other Elsevier Technology Services (ETS) areas on the integration of new core technologies;
• Acts as an internal consultant, advocate, mentor and change agent;
• Researches and maintains knowledge in emerging technologies and possible application to the business;
• Coordinates with other ETS areas on the integration of new core technologies;
• Advises, mentors and coaches ETS staff where appropriate;
• Produces as required and requested such documentation, diagrams and other architectural artefacts that may be required in pursuit of the above.
