Re: {PBJFlorida} FW: Wealth inequality in America? - no problem!

I'd have a discussion on the similarities between 18th c France and modern America as seen in Les Miserables.

Eric and all,
I've shown things like this to my classes before. I will show this tomorrow and ask them how they think this situation will impact them and their communities now and in the future.

Are there better survey questions to ask them?
What would you want to ask them? Suggestions please
I'll let you know how they respond.

The really shocking thing about this is that, in the past, my students and, I would guess, most middle class and lower believe that "the American dream" will save them. They think they will climb themselves into or close to the 1%. So this skewed distribution is of little concern to them in their myopic worldview logic of rugged individual separation, self-centeredness, scarcity and competition. It's not our fault. It's our conditioning.

Thanks, Abhinav, this was really, really well done and shocking. Briliant to show us what we think right next to where we are. Good find!

This is what PBFlorida is largely about - education. Thanks Abhinav for sharing with us and thanks Eric for sharing with your class what Abhinav posted.

Again, I send below the PBJFlorida website link for latest events, volunteer opportunities, and other educational resources. More additions to this website are on the way soon!

Abhinav, thanks so much for this! I teach a course on this stuff (Income & Wealth Distribution) – this is the best I've seen yet! I'm going to distribute among my colleagues.

Cheers – Eric Schutz

The ancient Indian thought expected the heirs of the deceased to distribute the wealth of the deceased to the poor in the society on the 12th day of the last rites and begin their business lives on a clean slate. Can there be a better concept of socialism?

A superb presentation - American dream going asunder in the last thirty years? - wonder what it will be like in India!

This one is worth watching. Uses simple graphics to drive home the 1% vs 99% reality!
