Fight Back in Jax (please share widely) The Justice4Jacksonville Coalition is holding a workshop for community, organization, and faith community leaders on Saturday, July 20 from noon to 2pm at the University Branch Library, 3435 University Blvd. North, Jacksonville in Public Meeting Room B. All are welcome. Come out and meet the new Florida staff - Ciara Taylor, ACLUFL Justice4Jacksonville Campaign Coordinator and Alicia Koutsoulieris, AIUSA Florida Death Penalty Abolition Campaigner. "Justice for Jacksonville is a coalition united to eliminate the extreme and disproportionate use of death sentencing in Florida's 4th Judicial Circuit" The Justice for Jacksonville Coalition includes faith groups, ACLU of Florida, FADP, NCADP, Amnesty International, and others who have come together with local groups and citizens in a struggle to reduce the flagrantly disproportionate and extreme use of the Death Penalty in Florida's 4th Judicial Circuit (Duval, Nassau, and Clay counties). In 2012 Duval County ranked second in the nation for highest number of new death sentences. 80% (12 of 15) of those sentenced to death in Duval County during 2009 – 2012 were African American. In 2011 Duval County sentenced 5 people to death – all 5 were African Americans. Although the 4th Judicial Circuit comprises just 6% of Florida's population, in 2010 and 2011 the 4th Judicial Circuit accounted for almost half of all new Florida sentences of death. In 2012 it accounted for 1 out of every 4 new death sentences in our state. The situation is extreme and unconscionable and cannot be suffered to continue. Please join us for this workshop. Find out what you can do. This valuable Death Penalty workshop will be facilitated by: Ciara Taylor, ACLUFL Justice4Jacksonville Campaign Coordinator Ebony Brickhouse, Amnesty International Southern Field Organizer Alicia Koutsoulieris, AIUSA Florida Death Penalty Abolition Campaigner.
