Thank you for making me aware of this. My son served in the Peace Corps and also developed a project along with the parents and faculty of the school in which he served---to develop a resource center for the study of English. The resources they had were very outdated and limited.
This project of Ana's for kids with special needs is a wonderful way to invest in the education of children and families and extend the work of one PCV!!
Blessings, Sue Peterson

Hi Jim, this is interesting, thanks for the resource!
I've been thinking of you all weekend because I went to a training on
participatory community development that I think you would have really
appreciated.
Big hug to everybody in Florida,
Katie

Subject: Greeting from Peru (with a better attachment)

Hello Friends and Family. As my time here in Peru comes to a close I am
reaching out to you and asking for support with my Healthy Classrooms
Project. I have had the pleasure of working with the only Special Needs
School in my community these last two years and plan on implementing a
Multi-Sensory Classroom as a way for this school to continue to grow and
potentially thrive.
Children with disabilities in these rural parts of Peru suffer from more
than lack of resources; they lack understanding, acceptance and support.
They are often hidden from society, kept from attending school or other
activities that would allow them to become an integral part of society.
This Special Needs school is the ONLY school available to these children
and it is looking to help them overcome the stigma and prejudices they face
every day by providing them with basic life skills and sustainable health
practices. I personally have gotten to know and love the students at this
school, and believe that this project will change not only the lives on
these special needs children, their families and educational community but
also the community at large. It will give them an opportunity to have a
sense of ownership and pride and most importantly love for their disabled
children.
Please Support Me by circulating this email and printing out the flyer and
handing it out at work, school and other public spaces!
Thank You
Ana
