Proposed new FDA rules threaten healthy food & farming Protect farmers & food Proposed food safety rules would  undermine sustainable farming. Tell FDA to fix the rules. Dear Nico, For generations, small farmers across the country have been pioneering sustainable farming practices that produce healthy food, sustain the environment and contribute to vibrant communities. Despite the many challenges they face, these farmers persevere. We all want food that's safe. But right now, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is considering new food safety rules that pose a serious threat to sustainable family farms and local food economies. This is unacceptable. Speak up now! » As currently written, the proposed rules would undermine sustainable and organic agriculture, local food systems and farm conservation efforts. Before the public comment period closes in two days, make sure FDA hears from you! FDA's new rules under the Food Safety Modernization Act would force small family farms to comply with high-cost, industrial-scale regulations — and many will go out of business. There will be less fresh, local produce in schools and community markets. And farmers will need to tear out wildlife habitat and increase reliance on chemical pesticides and fertilizers. Make sure FDA knows what's at stake » Unless we speak up now, these new FDA rules could have a devastating impact on the farmers and businesses responsible for the food we all eat.
