{PBJFlorida} The Other DREAMERs in Kentucky, North Carolina and Virginia

Hi amig@s,

Could you please pass this along to your contacts in North Carolina, Virginia and Kentucky? We are hoping to get more people and groups to host Itzel!

"Witness for Peace SE is a politically independent, nationwide grassroots organization of people committed to nonviolence and led by faith and conscience. WFP's mission is to support peace, justice and sustainable economies in the Americas by changing U.S. policies and corporate practices which contribute to poverty and oppression in Latin America and the Caribbean.  We do this by transforming people through leading delegations to Latin America to learn about from the people in communities who are personally affected by US policies and multinational corporations' practices.  We also raise awareness by leading speaker's tours every year featuring a Latin American activist that talks about their work in their home country.  Speakers visit universities and churches in Virginia, North Carolina and Kentucky educating people about the issues taking place in their communities.

This year's speaker is Itzel Polo Mendieta.  She was born in Mexico City and grew up in San Francisco Tetlanohcan, a small rural community in the in the state of Tlaxcala with a high rate of citizens journeying to the United States, a process known as "out migration". Itzel has worked as a volunteer for an organization that seeks to decrease the negative impacts of migration by working with the relatives of those who have migrated, especially women, to offer support, services and resources as needed. Currently, she is working as a community organizer in Mexico City with an organization called The Other DREAMERs. This is a group of young returned migrants – some who were deported, others who returned voluntarily – who do not have the necessary support and opportunities needed to re-integrate themselves into Mexican Society and the Mexican Labor Force. The Other DREAMERs seek to increase access to education for their constituency, since under Mexican Law the process to validate educational studies from the United States can be lengthy and expensive. The Other Dreamers organize for better job opportunities and access to education in Mexico."

The tour dates are Oct1st-24th. If you or anyone you know is interested in hosting this speaker or attending an event please contact Emily Zucchino at emily@witnessforpeace.org or Kristen Wassil at kristen@witnessforpeace.org

Thank you!!!

Lariza Garzon
