This mother of 3 was treated like a criminal because of U.S. immigration policy: we need just reform NOW. Immigration Reform Plans Released: Tell Obama and Congress You Want A Just Solution. On Monday, a group of Senators agreed to a framework for changes to the U.S.'s current immigration system. They have touted it as the "only chance" for comprehensive and meaningful immigration reform we will have for many years. Tuesday, President Obama announced his own immigration plan. Congress wants to produce a bill in the next months. We at Witness for Peace are committed to fair and just immigration reform: it must respect immigrant rights and address the root causes of migration.  Click here to send a message NOW to Congress and President Obama that you support this kind of reform. We are encouraged that both plans include a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants. We are concerned about the increased militarization of the border that would result from both plans, including increased spending on drones and more Border Patrol agents. We also demand that those in same-sex relationships be able to sponsor their spouses or partners for permanent legal residency. Furthermore, a solution must address the impacts of free trade agreements and U.S.-led militarization/counternarcotics policy on migration from Latin America. Tell Obama and your legislators that they should produce a just immigration plan. WfP rejects so-called immigration "reform" provisions that would allow for the continued criminalization and mass deportation of indocumented people through dehumanizing and family-dividing programs and laws, for which private corrections companies lobby at the state and federal level. Take action now for a fair immigration plan. Time is of the essence!
