Voting for the Global Impact Challenge closes on Friday, 31st May! We still need your help to get votes for the Panic Button project. I would like to ask you to forward the email below (French and Spanish version further below) to your membership today, encouraging them to help Amnesty win the Challenge. Thank you for your support!
In 2012, 101 countries repressed their people's right to freedom of expression - that is 64% of all the countries in the world!
Amnesty has long stood behind people who are fighting for their right to freedom of expression, but now we have a chance to even more directly support those individuals whose works endangers their lives. And in order to do so, we need your help!
Amnesty International has been chosen as a finalist in the Global Impact Challenge, sponsored by Google for our work on a mobile alert system that enables human rights activists to trigger rapid response from their network in an emergency.
We are one of ten finalists competing for an award of £500,000 ($755,000) between 22 May and 31 May.
The project that has made it to the final ten is the Panic Button, an application which allows activists to secretly broadcast their location to key contacts in an emergency, with updates on their whereabouts sent every five minutes after the app is activated.

Amnesty International developed the app over the past year in an open design process involving more than 650 designers, developers, human rights activists and NGOs. A prototype of the application was tested in Nairobi with human rights activists from around the world, who considered it a vital security tool for individuals at risk - especially women. One Ugandan woman human rights activist said, "Women often face violence and if they were provided with this tool it could be a saviour for them."
With the support from the Global Impact Challenge, the system will be scaled substantially and would revolutionise the way activists work and therefore how human rights are protected around the world.

Amnistie a toujours soutenu les personnes qui défendent leur droit a la liberté d'expression. Maintenant nous avons l'occasion de faire encore plus et d'une forme plus directe pour appuyer les individus à qui leur travaille met en danger leur vie. Mais pour le faire nous avons besoin de votre appui !
Amnistie International a été choisi comme finaliste au Défi pour l'Impacte Mondial,, Global Impact Challenge,, subventionné par Google, pour notre travail sur un système d'alerte au téléphone portable qui permet les défenseurs des droits humains à provoquer une réponse rapide de leur réseaux en cas d'urgence.

Amnistie International a développé cette application pendent toute l'année passée en processus ouvert avec plus que 650 développeurs, promoteurs, activistes et ONGs. Desde hace años Amnistía viene apoyando a las persona que luchan por su derecho a la libertad de expresión, ahora tenemos la oportunidad de ayudar aun mas y de una forma mas directa a las personas quienes trabajan en un ambiente peligroso. Pero para hacerlo necesitamos su ayuda!
Amnistía Internacional se encuentra como finalista en el Reto de Impacto Mundial, Global Impact Challenge patrocinado por Google, por un trabajo sobre un sistema de alerta de teléfono celular que ayuda a los defensores de derechos humanos a lanzar una reacción rápida de sus redes en caso de emergencia.
Desde el 22 hasta el 31 de mayo, vamos a estar en competencia con diez otros finalistas para el premio de £500,000 ($755,000)
Nuestro proyecto finalista es el proyecto 'Panic Button', botón de pánico que permite a los activistas, en caso de emergencia, a transmitir en secreto su ubicación periódicamente a una lista predeterminada de contactos y una vez que la aplicación esta activada.
