{PBJFlorida} Fwd: Take action! Tell Kangaroo to visit the fields and support tobacco farmworkers' fight for justice

Good morning all,

Just wanted to give a quick update on the e-action. So far, nearly 3,000 emails have been sent to Holman!!  Today is the last day for the action, tomorrow we will be printing all of the signed emails out to deliver to a Kangaroo store in Charlotte on Labor Day.

We need everyone's help with the final push today to see if we can get another 500 signatures.  In reviewing the list I see some staff and folks on this list haven't signed yet, so please take a moment to do it today!  There are two ways to send the eaction (you can do both):

Through our own action page: http://act.aflcio.org/c/758/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY=4834
Through the SignOn.org petition: http://signon.org/sign/kangaroo-express-support-1?source=c.url&r_by=256145

Whichever you choose please do this TODAY and also help circulate to other networks. Can someone from Ministry send it out over your list for signatures?

For all of us using social media (I see your facebook updates so I know you can do it:))  please post the action link asap and encourage people to take action. Staff and key campaign supporters should be the first ones to do this to get others involved.  Please take a quick second to share.  Also, on Monday there will be a big social media push when we are delivering the petition, so Kangaroo will be flooded with facebook messages and tweets the same day as the delivery.  I will send out sample tweets and facebook messages for Kangaroo on Sunday night or Monday morning.

Thanks to all for making this action a huge success!

HLV,
Bri

Hi all,
Below is the email announcing the action alert that we launched this morning. Please circulate widely! We have 3 days to send as many emails as possible, and then we will be printing out each of the individual emails and delivering them to Kangaroo in Charlotte on Monday.

For those on Facebook/Twitter, please repost and also post a message on Kangaroo's wall (https://www.facebook.com/KangarooExpress).  For twitter you can use the sample message "Tell @KrooExpress CEO Holman to support #tobacco farmworkers' fight for justice http://bit.ly/Nuwhwi #1u"  or write your own. We've seen that they react quickly to messages via social media so please help spread this around. Thanks everyone!

HLV,
Bri

Dear Ally,

Things are really heating up in this campaign!  Reynolds finally agreed to meet with FLOC and initial discussions are in the works.  But this fight isn't over. It's time to kick it into high gear.

For months consumers have been asking Kangaroo the largest convenience store chain in the Southeast that sells tobacco products including Reynolds to use their power and influence to ensure Reynolds does the right thing.  After hundreds of messages and store visits from our supporters, Kangaroo says that they did encourage Reynolds to meet with FLOC. Unfortunately, Kangaroo says this is all they are willing to do.  But we know they can do more.

Send Holman an email asking him to visit NC tobacco fields with FLOC.

Maybe Kangaroo doesn't understand how urgent this situation really is, and how many lives are depending on their support.  We think Kangaroo COB Ed Holman should come to the fields for a day to see these things with his own eyes.  After seeing first hand the horrendous conditions where many farm workers live and work, surely Kangaroo will do the right thing.  Email Holman and ask him to visit NC tobacco fields with FLOC.

We want Kangaroo to keep the pressure on Reynolds to ensure that Reynolds works with FLOC to develop a written agreement that guarantees freedom of association and collective bargaining to tobacco farm workers to ensure that these conditions do not exist on contract farms in the Reynolds supply chain.

Send Kangaroo COB Holman an email asking him to visit NC tobacco fields with FLOC.

Hasta la Victoria!

Can you help us spread the word? Share this on Facebook and Twitter and ask your family and friends to take action too!
