Subj: Please circulate: Public-Citizen's Global Trade Watch to speak in Orlando Thurs. 1/24

Hello all,

Hope you are doing well.

I am writing to ask you to please circulate a speaking event with Alisa Simmons of Public Citizen's Global Trade Watch in College Park this Thursday, January 24, at 7 P.M. at the CWA Union Hall, 2220 Edgewater Dr. 32854. The event is part of a Florida speaking tour on a new trade agreement, the Trans-Pacific Partnership. The agreement is being negotiated in secret between 11 countries, with the U.S. leading many of the proposals. It is designed to greatly expand the rights of multinational corporations and is expected to have a severe impact on the ability of national governments and civil society to protect the environment, human and labor rights, consumer rights, and the right to a traditional indigenous or farming lifestyle.

The participating countries currently inlcude the U.S., Mexico, Canada, Chile, Peru, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Brunei, Australia, and New Zeland, with more expected to join before the proposed negotiations deadline of October 2013.

I have attached the English and Spanish version of the flier for the speaking tour with more information about the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

The presentation will last about an hour, followed by a half hour for strategizing and next steps. Please let me know if anyone from your organization will be able to attend. I am really looking forward to building some resistance to this agreement in our state using art and theatre!

We will also be meeting with Senator Marco Rubio's staff at 2pm on Friday, January 25th
about the agreement. Please let me know if you would like to be part of a delegation to speak on how this issue impacts your organization and/or our community.

Thanks for your help!

Happy Dr. King Day!!!
