RE: {PBJFlorida} You are invited...

Dear Louise,

I previously thought I could make the conversation, but I have a commitment I cannot break, as I am  helping to decide who the new interim minister at our church will be. I will be extremely busy most of next week. I am so sorry. I am hoping that others from PBJFlorida could attend, for as you say, attendence has been extremely light. I hope can will RSVP if they area going.

I did respond to Katie and I included part of my message here (below) again, to stress the point that we need to figure out a way to meet and communicate aside from using email.

Message to Katie:
I know the problem we face is trying to get our different events/small groups going, and then to maintain the momentum and interest. Everyone has something unique and important to present, but trying to gather the audience has proved more than a challenge. We spread ourselves too thin somehow. Everyone has some event, home chore, or work responsibility. Many of us also live far from one another. There are many challenges and I wish I had an easy solution. I need ideas.

One of the reasons for PBJFlorida was for us to, at the very least, stay in touch with one another. But face to face, and in your case Katie, ear to ear (LOL!) is crucial.  Yet, I have personally stopped calling for PBJFlorida face to face meetings because few if anyone turns out, especially on a periodic basis.

With all of that said, I have access to a conference call-In number. I propose that those interested pick a day and time once a month to call in. We need to stick with it. We will use it to discuss anything: ideas, concerns, announcments, hot topics, including "Flow." We must have at least four people on the line. Otherwise, we call it a night and try again next time. Can we give this a try?

Any further suggestions from anyone? I need help to make PBJFlorida true community - a place of education, communication, and help to all!

One Love,
Miguel

Miguel,

Need to spread the word that the Community Building conversation is continuing at Panera Bread on Park Ave., in Winter Park at 6:30 pm on Tuesday evening, June 26th. (Not necessary to buy supper or coffee/tea there unless you want to.) This is an important conversation, attended by too few people, considering the importance of the subject.  Please let us know through PBJFlorida is you are planning to be there.  Hope to see you Tuesday evening at 6:30-8 pm.

Hi, PBJ of Flow-readahs (<-- it's like Florida in a New York accent +
readers of *Flow*)

Summer time is in full swing for me, and I'm wondering if we ever cemented
any plans for the book club we talked about earlier. I've been reading *
Flow *and have gotten about halfway through, but to be honest I'm kind of
losing steam on it and could use some external motivation.

Is anybody else reading it also? Can we plan a time to discuss? I thought
the book club was a great idea of something to be involved in, as being in
NY has made me feel pretty disconnected (and I definitely don't want to be
disconnected from you all!). So, basically, I'm still excited about the
idea as long as we can get a little group going.

Let me know if you're in the same boat,

Katie

*WHAT: Rally at NALEO Conference demanding Romney respond to whether he
would overturn new immigration policy. *

*WHEN: June 21, 2012 11:30AM*

*WHERE: Disney's Contemporary Resort, 4600 North World Drive*

*Lake Buena Vista, FL* – During an interview with "Face the Nation," Mitt
Romney refused to answer whether he would overturn President Obama's new
directive to stop the deportation of undocumented youth. Romney backed off
and instead spoke about border security. He then talked about E-Verify, an
important part of his "Self-Deportation" strategy for undocumented
immigrants that unveiled during the primaries.

Undocumented youth eagerly look forward to see the President's new policy
fully implemented. But the Latino community is beginning to wonder whether
Romney would take away the protection for DREAMers. Beginning tomorrow at
the NALEO conference, DREAMers will escalate their actions until Romney
supports the President's new immigration policy or until he responds
whether he would overturn the President's policy.

For all those who have been waiting, in some cases decades, for the DREAM
Act, the President's directive is a long-overdue breath of fresh air, and a
signal that undocumented youth can truly move on with their lives and
contribute to this country they call home. In the end, Mitt Romney has an
alarming record on immigration, vetoing in-state tuition for undocumented
students in his own state, promising to veto the federal DREAM Act, and
supporting SB1070.

M Reyes <mreyesesq@gmail.com> Jun 20 04:30PM -0400

I want to give you the heads up about a potential action, in support of the
DREAMers, that is in the planning stage, even at this late hour. It is
currently scheduled to take place at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow (Thursday, June
21) in light of the NALEO conference in Orlando. The location is still not
completely known as the organizers are still figuring out the logistics.
The strategy behind the action is that Mitt Romney has been tip-toeing
around the issue of whether or not he would take away the deferred action
recently granted by President Obama if he (Romney) is elected President.
The idea is to put pressure on Romney to give the media an answer about
what he would do if he were to be elected. The recent action by President
Obama is only a temporary fix; therefore, the DREAMers and their supporters
continue the fight for a permanent solution. I am sending this e-mail in
case any of you wish to attend. I will send the final information as soon
as I receive it.

Thank you.

Maritza Reyes
