{PBJFlorida} Prominent Conservatives Say Connecticut Children Killed Because Public Schools Don't Allow God

AA Sr. Amira and All!

I wanted to respond so long ago. I think you hit the nail right on the head. The percentage of record breaking gun and ammo sales has a direct correlation to Obama's presidency. There has been an attempt to develop an apocalyptic (and fear-based) "mindset"  among many white americans in particular, and arm them to the teeth to intimidate the president. The mentally ill, however, are usually the ones that use weapons to kill innocent American lives.  The extreme right has been responsible for many of our national shames: perpetuating a war in Iraq due to the fabrication of WMDs, redefining rape of women, denouncing the Dream Act for immigrant children, persecuting American Muslims, denying climate change and then delaying action against it, constantly equating African Americans with welfare, defunding education and mental health programs, supporting the deregulation of nearly all hand-carried weapons which has "partially" contributed to the Connecticut elementary school killings - and one of the most tragic times since 9/11. To date, the Republicans in the House of Representatives and the NRA have refused to say anything or much of anything to the media. For example, not one has accepted be on the popular Diane Rehms radio show for comment. Prominent Conservative Christians are saying that the massacre occurred because the children were in public school where God is not allowed. Are the pieces starting to fit together? As an activist, I can no longer remain silient. The right has gone too far. The left has tolerated their obsene behavior far too long. It's time for the left to "grow a spine" as Massachusetts Gov. Duval Patrick said. The far right has only held sway in this country because they have found a home in the Republican Party.  I am not a Democrat, but for the most part, Democrats, as imperfect as they are (and as corrupt as they can be), are not currently acting with such venom, ignorance, and hatred.

I have tried to be fair and impartial to the two main U.S. political parties in my communication and in my stance within PBJF. But I draw the line here. This is not a political partisan rant but an appeal for common sense and justice. When the Democratic Party supported slavery and state sovereignty, Lincoln and the Republicans did not excuse or tolerate the Democrats, but politically fought the Northern Democrats in Congress and went to a bloody war with Southern Democrats. One hundred and forty years ago, the Democrats were wrong. Now, the Republicans are wrong. And they need to be called on it.

I am not attacking conservative values of morality, faith, or even fiscal responsibility. I am attacking what is currently called "American Conservatism" and the "Republican Party." True conservatism and the real Republican Party were hijacked many years ago by fanatics who are neither conservative nor republican. They are insurrectionists. And they should be treated as such.

God willing, I will no longer tolerate the intolerable. How many more children, teenagers, and adults have to suffer and die before we stand up to Republican insurrectionist ideology?

Miguel

AA ya'll, I tend to agree with Penny. So many people seem to want to be in the light but not grubbing in the dirt. If everyone does a little piece, the pieces add up. There is a local program called Home Instead for home bound seniors who can not afford nursing homes, etc., I took four of the names off the tree at Walgreens and put together practical needs for them, but sure was distraught to see how many tags were left when I took them back. We are quick to drop off a toy or a can of food, but when it requires extra effort it tends to get a bit stickier.

Also, it sickens me to see we have to have yet another incident of lunacy (tginM) to bring up the question of controlling automatic weapons. Having lived where there was gun control and open, democratic government, and seen nearly zero crime rate....well, I am sorry, the NRA people and Charlton Heston do not get my vote. It can and does work. It is very scary that WalMart reports their highest percentage increase in their history on gun and ammo sales since the election. That means that a lot more lunatics are out there preparing to take on the rest of the planet that does not look like them, agree with them, or they are too immature to deal with in general.

The mom of the killer had recently purchased five weapons and had them in her home, so it will be interesting to see what, if anything, comes out about the real conflicts and issues that led to this horrible massacre. Every country in the world that has allowed their children to become body armour and cannon fodder has fallen...

Praying for the families and small town of the Conn shootings,
Amira

Thanks Jim and all. This is a great article and I know how right she is. But I feel very frustrated that smart people who know the situation just sit around and exchange good articles and tsktsk about it.
Sorry for my bah humbug attitude but
I want some ideas with action or plan.

The victims are getting younger. America does not lead the world in education but it does lead the world in killing its young students. How much longer do we remain silent?
