I forward this letter from a friend about the terrible situation in Israel/Gaza.
Both sides suffer; the conflict seems unsurmountable, but there are voices for peace. Here is a voice for peace.

My dear friends, I am in tears that want to fall as I think of the Palestinian people being slaughtered now as I write. 
I'm sending you Rabbi Allissa Wise note to encourage you to phone the white House and follow her directions. 

I just did. Yes, I waited, but knew I'd wait a while. I finally got a sweet voice who not only listened but I felt she agreed.
Her further advice was to write to the President, and I will.

I ask you, please, maybe just for me as well as those families huddled together scared of imminent death, to make the call. I read that more Americans believe Israel can "defend" itself at the cost of the Palestinian deaths. How appalling. 

As you know, I am a Jewish ally, have worked closely with Jews, loved their rituals. But it's God awful behavior to be killing innocent people in the name of defense. 
I I were occupied like the Gazans, if the water supply were low, if food was pitifully scare, I'd pitch a few rockets over to them. What else? The Arab nations have done little. And America has sold its soul to the Israeli lobby.

Okay, I could go on.

Please make an effort to phone the white house and speak up for these people who are getting killed with weapons my tax dollars send them.

Trusting that someday the two peoples can live side by side,

Dear Adele Azar,

The news coming out of Gaza and Israel these past few days has been truly horrifying. Drones and F-16s are dropping bombs over densely populated Gaza, which continues to be under Israel's control from infrastructure to border. Twenty Palestinians have been killed. Rockets being launched out of Gaza have killed three Israeli civilians.

This Operation "Pillar of Defense" is being paid for thanks to the blank check the Israeli military receives from the US government. Even as we take to the streets to call for an immediate cessation of the bombings into Gaza, the rocket attacks into civilian communities in Israel, and an end to the ongoing siege of Gaza, we are aware that more is required. 

Now is the time to demand Obama take decisive action that honors all the lives being lost.

Even before Israel's escalation of violence, we were calling for an end to the Israeli military's blank check along with a growing coalition of Jews, Christians, Muslims and human rights and solidarity activists. Together we are asking President Obama to make sure aid to Israel doesn't continue to violate US laws which specifically prohibit assistance to any country which engages in a consistent pattern of human rights violations. 

Now is the time to make sure the US stops payment on the Israeli military's blank check. As Hillel the Elder taught: "If not now, when?"
