{PBJFlorida} A Special Message about the Write for Rights Event

Hello Everyone,

As dedicated letter writers for human rights, I hope you will attend this year's Write for Rights Event, Amnesty International's annual global letter writing marathon held every December!  Orlando Chapter 519 will host our Write 4 Rights event on December 1, 2014 from 6pm-8pm in the Pine Room of the Mark Street Senior Center.  All materials will be provided and we will have light refreshments.

You can sign up to write on your own if you cannot attend: www.amnestyusa.org/write4rights.

Also, please consider donating to our local group in Orlando by visiting our website at www.AmnestyOrlando.org and clicking on the "Donate" button at the top of the page.

  • The basic idea is to generate as many letters as possible on a small number of cases (10 this year) within a short time frame so that we can release prisoners of conscience, stop torture and halt executions.
  • This year's cases include Liu Ping, a prisoner of conscience in China jailed for her activism against corruption and Raif Badawi, a prisoner of conscience in Saudi Arabia sentenced to 10 years in prison and 1,000 lashes for blogging.
  • Every year, Write for Rights helps make real change in peoples' lives. Last year, participants helped free Yorm Bopha, a human rights activist and prisoner of conscience in Cambodia. She wrote, "Thank you to Amnesty International's supporters! Your campaign has been successful, as my release shows!"
