Senior Linux Systems Engineer

Location: Philadelphia, PA

Rate: $DOE

Duration: 6+months

Interview: Telephonic followed by F2F/Skype

 

Major Duties:

  • Function as a key member of the team responsible for the day-to-day system administration and operation of video delivery systems with concentration on metrics data collection, analysis, reporting, tools and solutions development (coding/scripting/dashboard development) and operational support.
  • Function as a leader to the team to provide day-to-day, system administration, and operational support of VOD (Video on Demand) video delivery systems.
  • Be approachable and available for dissemination of Linux and scripting skills for team members ramping up on Linux platforms.
  • Support of thousands of Linux systems, both from external vendors and internal projects.
  • Participate in the design review of new technical features and architecture changes to the Video on Demand content management and delivery systems.
  • Perform troubleshooting and problem resolution activities with other support teams (e.g. network support, divisional support, and vendors).
  • Produce Root Cause Analysis that focuses on recommendations to lessons learned and avoid problem recurrence.
  • Assemble training materials for divisional support to enable divisional and customer care support capabilities.
  • Perform code development and upgrades, patching, tuning, and troubleshooting.
  • Perform application software and database installation, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
  • Assist with monitoring tools configuration and investigate avenues to create more robust monitoring
  • Produce Root Cause Analysis findings that focus on recommendations to learn from and avoid problem recurrence.
  • Manage capacity, function, performance and stability of VOD environment, and is at acceptable level.
  • Perform occasional Microsoft Windows system administration, installation, upgrades, patching, tuning, hardening and troubleshooting on thousands of distributed servers
  • Participation in an on-call rotation for after-hours coverage as needed
  • Occasional travel required
  • Maintain productive relationships with peer organizations & and vendors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Skills/Experience:

 

  • At least 5 years of Linux/Unix systems administration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting experience in a large-scale (100+ servers), customer-facing, high availability environment.
  • At least 3 years in-depth experience with IP networking (TCP/IP packet analysis with tcpdump and Wireshark, DNS, SNMP etc.)
  • Administration, maintenance, support and scaling of Application Servers (Puppet, Tomcat, JBoss, etc.)
  • Creation of shell scripts to automate tasks and perform basic data analysis.
  • Coding experience in Python, Perl, Ruby or PHP, the scripting languages used for dynamic web pages  and web development (like classic HTML or XHTML, JavaScript, Java)
  • Experience with databases such as MySQL, CouchDB or MongoDB, and Oracle.
  • Experience with messaging, log aggregation, indexing, data mining, statistical analytics and reporting tools such are Splunk, Logstash, Apache Kafka.
  • Experience managing servers remotely in a distributed environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to stay organized while multi-tasking between several projects, and to adapt to change.
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Team player with professional work ethic and positive attitude.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce results with a minimum of day-to-day direction.
  • Demonstrated interest in continuing to grow professionally and learn new things.
  • Must be able to work variable shift hours and rotate on-call duties

Desired Skills/Experience:

 

  • Experience with SeaChange, Cisco, and/or Arris Video Delivery product lines.
  • Tools development in Python, Ruby, Perl, PHP, Java/JavaScript or similar languages.
  • Experience with large scale (multi-tier) caching delivery systems.
  • Experience with Nagios monitoring and plugins.
  • Experience designing SQL database schemas and optimizing queries.
  • Experience operating and troubleshooting web application servers. XML experience is a plus.
  • Experience with VBscript and PowerShell scripts to automate tasks and perform basic data analysis.
  • Basic understanding of security and identity management technologies (Digital Certificates, LDAP, SSO, etc.)
  • Load Balancer, Switch and/or Router configuration, function, setup and support
  • Experience delivering MPEG content over HFC and/or IP Networks
  • Experience developing technical documentation to clearly detail information necessary for the support, construction or enhancement of projects

 

Education:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent in work experience and self-study.
  • Advanced degree is a plus.

Data Reporting Analyst

Location: Philadelphia, PA

Rate: $DOE

Duration: 6+months

Interview: Telephonic followed by F2F/Skype

 

The ideal candidate will have experience and passion for supporting data analysis with the highest attention to detail and data quality. The Reporting Analyst is responsible for fulfilling ad-hoc data requests for other teams, and developing reports in tableau or other business intelligence tools as needed, as well as supporting business in month-end and quarterly executive reports. This person will be comfortable collecting and documenting requirements, and interfacing with the business in non-technical terms, while also comfortably discussing technical details. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in software development, and able to do analysis on large unstructured data sets and quickly grasp new technologies.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Supports short and long term reporting activities
  • Develops, enhances, and maintains utilization and trending reports for clients
  • Prepares, analyzes and monitors new, routine and ad hoc reports.
  • Assumes responsibility for data integrity (Test reports, and other database objects for data quality and accuracy)
  • Gathers business requirements as needed
  • Performs User Acceptance Testing (UAT) when needed
  • Work with an agile team consisting of Application Developers, Database Developers, Department Analysts and other business stakeholders to support analytical/BI reporting

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in analytical field (Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics…)
  • 2+years of experience working as a data analyst or similar role performing analytics
  • Proficient at writing sophisticated SQL queries, stored procedures and functions
  • Experience with BI/Data visualization tools like Tableau
  • Exposure to Unix/Linux
  • Scripting knowledge a plus
  • Technical understanding of software development methodologies, programming, etc.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving are a must
  • Ability to work in a rapidly changing and fast paced environment
  • Self-motivated, highly organized, and able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks

This work effort involves providing COBOL and JCL development to support legacy data migration into Mainframe DB2 databases running on Z/OS. The resource will be responsible for development conforming to customer standards and requirements and will be involved in the unit testing and validation against desired outcomes. Required Experience/Skills: 

1. 7-10+ years JDA ESCP, OP, JDA Platform experience: Strong domain knowledge in multiple JDA Product 

solutions including JDA ESCP, JDA Order Promiser and JDA Platform to understand how the JDA solutions can be 

configured and delivered to better facilitate customer business processes. 

2. Strong familiarity/experience with semiconductor industry preferably foundry. 

3. BS/MS degree in Supply Chain planning, Industrial Engineering or related quantitative field. 

4. Strong communication, analytical and delivery skills with the ability to guide an audience through clear, concise, 

engaging communication techniques.
