Re: {PBJFlorida} Digest for pbjflorida@googlegroups.com - 2 updates in 2 topics

Asalamu Alaikum all my friends - Susan, thanks for addressing this. We Muslims are painfully witnessing this in the most horrendous manner internationally as we speak, especially given the atrocities that ISIS, Boko Haram, and other groups are perpetrating, as well as the theology versus theology used as an excuse in Syria and other places. (Most people who want to sensationalize or point fingers (failing to remember that four point inward) do not stop to think that more Muslims kill other Muslims than any other group!) I am sure the Prophet (pbuh) is sobbing as he prays next to all the great prophets of all the great religions. The walls that are being thrown up are very scary, as I, for one, would prefer the end times to be in God's time and not a self-fulfilled prophesy created by the hate of man one upon another. If all the faiths would just go back to what was originally taught, as it was taught, we would not be having any of these discussions.

Hope you can find some hosting families. Many prayers for everyone in the group, miss you all.

Sister Amira

The sad part, frankly, is Christians not seeing God's love blooming amidst
those of other cultures and faiths. God is not limited by our "confessions
of faith"; God's truth is proclaimed among many faiths and peoples. There
is a mixture here of heartfelt prayer for those who suffer such
devastation, as well as a misguided theology of God's rejection of those
who do not follow a specific faith tradition. Christians are not the only
ones who suffer from this malady of exclusion--"God love us more than God
loves you." It can be found in many places on our globe!

Blessings,

Dear Friends,

Be an Ambassador by hosting an ambassador from another country. American
Councils is looking for families and/or individuals who would like to host
a high-school age exchange student for the coming year, 2015-16. *Andy
from Ghana would come on YES (Youth Exchange Study)* and program
established after 9/11 to develop positive relationships with students and
their families in about 40 countries with a significant Muslim population. *
Anhelina from Ukraine would come on FLEX (Future Leaders Exchange)*
established in 1992 to bring students to the U.S. for one year of high
school from countries of the former Soviet Union. (Profiles are attached to
this e-mail)

Host families provide a supportive, English-speaking environment; three
meals/day plus snacks; a bed and a place to study; and transportation to
school and/or volunteer activities as needed. They are allowed a $50/month
deduction on income tax for each month (at least 15 days) that they host a
student.

U.S. State Dept. scholarship students receive a monthly stipend, health
insurance, and a small incidental allowance for necessary school supplies.
They are required to maintain a B average, participate in a leadership
club, make at least 3 cultural presentations at school and/or in the
community, and perform at least 30 hours of volunteer service to the
community.
