Description:

 

The overall re-platforming in Turbo Tax is being spread to 3 layers

The existing code base was monolithic where the presentation layer, Tax Topic content and Tax Calc and Data Services are all tightly coupled

 

Layer 1 will be the Tax Calc and Data Services engine, which is moving into a new avatar called TKE (Tax Knowledge Engine) which is essentially a wrapper over the refactored code from the erstwhile Monolith.

 

Layer 2 will be the Tax Topic Service Layer. This is the core piece of work in scope for this RFP. Client is using a proprietory framework (like google Tesorflow - https://www.tensorflow.org)

Tax Topic Service Layer will be built on this framework.

The programming languages that is being used to build out this framework is mostly JS based (along with other scripting languages like perl, phython etc), 

 

Layer 3 will be the presentation layer, here most of the work is already done. Client has designed this as players (Like web player, Android player, iOS Player, desktop player) where each player accesses the same Tax Topic Service and Tax Calc and Data Services engine and renders based on the specific UX needs of the channel.

 

This RFP will interface with presentation layer but will not have a lot of direct work in it

The key to success to win this RFP will be having Tax SME and more importantly the skill of the engineers.

They need to be from top class background with full stack capability.

Potential external hiring should be done from companies like Microsoft, Yahoo, PP etc. and focus needs to be on scripting language knowledge (as mentioned in the RFP) and not much of J2EE stack. Self-driven engineers with deep engineering skills.
