TITLE: ORGANIZER
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT & EDUCATION
JOB SUMMARY: The Organizer for the Community Engagement and Education Program is a fulltime position for a bilingual-bicultural Spanish/English individual who will work flexible hours to develop leadership and increase civic engagement in the immigrant Latino community, educate our host community on the Hispanic culture and advocate for the social, civic and economic integration of Latino immigrants in Alabama.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Works in the Latino community, primarily in Central Alabama to identify issues, implement campaigns, build and increase capacity among the grassroots immigrant community, develop leaders and increase civil participation of the Hispanic community in Alabama.
Identifies, builds relationships with and helps train community leaders through the Alabama Organizing Project (AOP).
Works with state, regional, and national partners (e.g. Alabama Coalition for Immigrant Justice, Southeast Immigrant Rights Network, Center for Community Change, National Council of La Raza, etc.) in campaigns, webinars and other projects.
Leads educational workshops for the Spanish-speaking immigrant community, such as "Know Your Rights" workshops.
Works flexible hours to meet program requirements and community needs, including evenings and weekends.
Works across ¡HICA! programs to ensure full integration of ¡HICA! constituents
Attends appropriate trainings for program implementation.
Archives appropriate materials.
Compiles monthly statistics and reports.
Maintains and uphold the policies and procedures of ¡HICA!.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor's degree in social sciences field; prior work or volunteer experience
could suffice.
Bicultural - Bilingual English/Spanish
Strong communication skills (written and verbal) are essential
Must be a self-starter with strong interpersonal, organizational and record keeping skills.
Ability to interact with Latino community members in respectful manner and assume
responsibility independently.
Fluency in Microsoft Office
Prior experience in a nonprofit setting helpful.
Valid driver's license, automobile insurance and reliable transportation.
COMPENSATION
Competitive Salary, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama Health, Dental, and Vision insurance paid at 100% for employee, retirement plan with up to 3% matching after one year of service, 18 days paid time off first year of employment.
