JOB DESCRIPTIONS:

 

Required skills:

 

·                     Expertise in healthcare data domains (clinical, claims, billing, etc.)

·                     Expertise working with data in healthcare IT systems (Epic, Cerner, Allscripts, McKesson etc.)

·                     Experience with SQL or other database query technologies in mining data for analysis and sleuth and understand data issues (data quality, confirm customer use of data)

·                     Experience in understanding business requirements and translating that into data analysis

·                     Experience in data mapping (source system to target system mapping)

·                     Experience analyzing data for format, content, relationships, etc. in its raw form before being loaded into database tables

·                     Strong logical, analytical thinking, problem solving skills

·                     Strong collaboration and communication skills – role will have interaction with external customers

·                     Demonstrated ability to work independently and proactively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment 

 

Preferred / Nice to Have

·                     Exposure to data warehouse architecture and Kimball-style dimensional modeling

·                     Exposure to IBM's healthcare data model

·                     Exposure to BI reporting

·                     Experience with data profiling tools

JOB DESCRIPTIONS:

 

Consultant Must be GC or Citizens

 

The Data Analyst is responsible for developing the logical and physical data base design and documentation for both mainframe and client/server systems within Sallie Mae.  The Data Analyst is also responsible for providing metadata management and support to various departments within systems as well as throughout Sallie Mae.  The individual provides subject matter expertise in a broad range of Data Management disciplines, including data normalization techniques and data rationalization.

 

A DATA ANALYST WILL HAVE:

 

·         A working understanding of data administration concepts, principles, and industry "Best Practices"

·         Experience developing logical and physical data models and associated meta data in accordance with corporate guidelines and naming standard conventions

·         Strong written and verbal communication skills

·         A thorough understanding and experience with normalization techniques

·         Experience with Entity Relationship (ER) Diagramming tools

·         Actively participates in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to development and support of new and ongoing systems to ensure the integrity of data.

·         Coordinates data models, dictionaries, and other database documentation across multiple applications.

·         Ability to work in a high volume environment.

·         Works with development teams, migration manager and database administrator to ensure that the model design and development is properly updated, loaded and communicated.

·         Maintains data integrity by working to eliminate redundancy and adhering to requisite data governance rules set forth by the Bank.

·         Stays informed of the ways the organization uses its data.

 

FUNCTIONS:

 

·         Logical Data Model Development                                       20%

o   Work closely with development teams to identify the data required by the application and business processing.  Data requirements gathering may be through individual meetings or through conducting                            Joint Application Development (JAD) sessions.

o   Responsible for developing the logical data model which consists of developing the entity-relationship diagram (ERD), creating entity and data item business names and descriptions as well as defining data item valid values, type and length, and physical target names.

o   Meta data management including the enforcement of standards and naming convention.

o   Document all deliverables within the ER diagramming tool

·         Physical Data Model Development                                                                                     30%

o   Responsible for the process of data normalization as well as working closely with the DBA to reach a consensus on the physical data base design.

o   Document all primary and foreign keys, indexes and constraints

o   Generate DDL/Alter table scripts for implementation by the DBAs

·         Meta Data Support                                                                                                               25%

o   Respond to ad hoc requests regarding metadata information on the various systems that DM supports.

o   Establish and maintain constructive user relationships to better manage user expectations.

o   Support data rationalization efforts and develop data models using Select SE and ERWIN.

o   Determine appropriate enterprise-wide data strategy and articulate tasks to help move the organization towards the strategy.

·         Customer Service                              15%

o   Coordinate the completion of data base change requests within the Data Management team

o   Work with clients to complete data base change requests in a timely manner. 

o   Complete deliverables that are consistent, accurate, and follow all corporate naming conventions and guidelines.

·         Project Management                                                                                                            10%

o   Keep management informed of critical issues.

o   Complete metrics and auditing information for reporting purposes.

o   Commit to and meet deadlines in both quality and time.

o   Develop department procedures and standards.

o   Develop corporate naming guidelines and standard abbreviations.

 

MANDATORY SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:

 

·          Experience with configuration management concepts, practices, and procedures relative to data modeling in a high volume environment.

·          Experience with data modeling tools, practices, approaches.

·          Ability to operate a PC or CRT

·          Ability to understand business problems and translate these problems into automated and non-automated solutions

·          Knowledge of data administration principles

·          Knowledge of logical and physical data base design techniques

·          People management skills, including the ability to direct, counsel, lead, and motivate staff in a matrix environment.

·          Strong technical skills required to ensure technical solutions are efficient and optimal

·          Strong written and oral communication skills

·          Knowledge and support of departmental standards and guidelines

·          Ability to multi-task

 

DESIRED / SUPPLEMENTARY SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:

 

·          Bachelor's degree in a related area and at least 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.

·          History of demonstrated experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

·          Embarcadero data modeling tool.

·          2-3 years of related data warehouse experience

·          1-2 years of dimensional data modeling experience

·          Experience with data rationalization

 

EXPERIENCE LEVEL (INTERMEDIATE, SENIOR, ADVANCED):

·          Intermediate 

·          A minimum of 8-10 years of experience in developing logical and physical data base designs

·          Demonstrated proficiency in the use of structured analysis and design techniques including normalization

·          Must be familiar with ER diagramming tools.

CLIENT LOOKING FOR 5-7 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE WITH ORACLE FORMS/REPORTS.

 

SUMMARY: Develop, maintain, document, and troubleshoot applications to support various departments.  May include training and assisting end users in the use and operation of custom developed programs and systems. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Develop and modify code, reports, and forms to meet business needs

·         Communicate with users in various departments to develop new applications and/or resolve issues with current production applications

·         Test applications by creating test data and replicating production scenarios

·         Coordinate application and systems implementation with Database Administrators, Quality Assurance, other Information Systems personnel, and end users

·         Work with Quality Assurance and Computer Operations staff to schedule batch processes and reports

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

·         3 - 7 years of experience with Oracle Forms and Reports, PL/SQL queries

·         Working knowledge of relational database theory and operation.

·         Basic knowledge of AIX/UNIX/Linux shell scripting.

·         Ability to design, develop, maintain, and troubleshoot custom Oracle forms, reports, and PL/SQL scripts.

·         Web development and client server forms and reports a plus.

·         Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, results-oriented, demanding, multi-priority environment, both independently and as part of a team.

·         Excellent communications with users at any level a must.

·         Retail or Warehouse Management background may be helpful.

 

TOP 3-5 MUST HAVE SKILLS:

·         3- 7 years of experience with Oracle Forms and Reports, PL/SQL queries.

·         Working knowledge of relational database theory and operation.

·         Basic knowledge of AIX/UNIX/Linux shell scripting.

·         This person must have experience working with Oracle forms/reports

 

Degree Requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or equivalent business experience in related field.
