{PBJFlorida} Fwd: Just Vision won the Peabody Award!

Hey friends!
My friend and teacher Janice is going to be showing this film, about some nonviolent approaches to the Israeli/Palestinian situation, at the clubhouse of her condo this Saturday evening. There will be a potluck at 6:30pm and then the film at 7:30. She lives right off of Manor in Maitland, right by the Enzian theater. If you are on 1792 heading south you will make a left on Manor, if you are heading north it will be aright turn. Either way, the condos are right there on the right hand side as soon as you turn on Manor. It is just a short film, only about 30 minutes, and then we will chat afterward. Write back with any questions. And please RSVP if you would like to attend and I will let her know :)

Dear Janice,

We have some incredibly exciting news:

Mohammed El Kurd in Sheikh Jarrah

Our documentary film, My Neighbourhood, directed by Julia Bacha and Rebekah Wingert-Jabi, has been awarded the prestigious George Foster Peabody Award for distinguished achievement in electronic

media.

Airing on Al Jazeera English's Witness program in April 2012, My Neighbourhood tells the story of Mohammed El Kurd, a Palestinian teenager from East Jerusalem, whose family is evicted from part of their home by Israeli settlers. The 25-minute film focuses on the human impact of settlement expansion in East Jerusalem and the nonviolent campaign that Palestinian residents and Israeli supporters are waging against the evictions.

We plan to direct all public attention generated by this award to the residents of Sheikh Jarrah and Palestinian families across East Jerusalem who continue to struggle nonviolently to put a stop to Israeli settlement expansion.

In the last two months, we brought My Neighbourhood to a range of audiences, ensuring stories like Mohammed's get the visibility they need. We may have seen you at venues like Emory University or Harvard; the Washington National Cathedral, the Islamic Center of Southern California or Temple Israel in Boston. We broadcasted My Neighbourhood on the Palestinian satellite channel, Ma'an, and screened it at a forum on legal issues at Tel Aviv University. And we've got more screenings lined up for the coming weeks!

To ensure that the film is widely accessible, we have also made it available online in English, Arabic and Hebrew. Watch it today and help draw focus to problem of settlement expansion in East Jerusalem by sending the link to three of your friends.

With appreciation,

Ronit Avni

PS - Please join us in celebrating this milestone by investing in our My Neighbourhood outreach campaign to bring the film to more faith communities, university campuses and high profile venues around the world. We couldn't have brought My Neighbourhood to the European Parliament, the United Nations and to DC policy experts without your help. The awards that it won at the Warsaw Jewish Film Festival and Al Jazeera's Documentary Festival were a testament to your support. Please make a tax-deductible donation today and help us keep our momentum so we can work towards preventing further settlement expansion in East Jerusalem.
